About The Jenner Wind Project Projects

The Jenner Wind Power Project (JWPP), Jenner Wind Power Project 2 (JWPP2) and Jenner Wind Power Project 3 (JWPP3), collectively known as the Jenner Projects, are located near the town of Jenner in southeastern Alberta. The co-located Projects have a combined capacity of 303 megawatts (MW) and are connected to Alberta’s Interconnected Electricity System via Transmission Line 949L. The Projects started commercial operations in late 2023.

Project Updates

The Jenner Wind Power Project (JWPP3) has declared commercial operation. Jenner Wind Power Project (JWPP) and the Jenner Wind Power Project 2 (JWPP2) are planning to declare commercial operation before the end of the year.

Construction resumes at the Jenner Projects. The focus of the year will be turbine and blade deliveries, turbine erection, blade installation, collector line and electrical completion, and site rehabilitation. The Transmission Line 949L construction is primarily complete and activities for 2023 will focus on closing out the construction.

Construction has wrapped up for the year at the Jenner Projects. There will be some activity over the winter to allow for ongoing delivery of components. Construction activities will start-up again in Spring of 2023 and will focus on turbine erection and commissioning through to the end of the year.

Construction has resumed at the JWPP. The haul routes for equipment are available here. Construction of the JWPP2 and JWPP3 are anticipated to begin in April and construction of the Transmission Line will begin around May. We hosted a second virtual open house on March 15 to provide information on construction activities and schedule for the Jenner Projects in 2022. The presentation is available here.

Construction wrapped up for the year at the JWPP. We have safely constructed 15 of the JWPP’s 22 turbine foundations, built several kilometres of new and improved roads, established the main construction laydown area and completed majority of the substation civil works. Our construction teams have demobilized from the site for the winter and construction activities will resume in Spring 2022. Furthermore, the JWPP2 and JWPP3 have received their respective approval from the AUC and they will begin construction in Spring 2022.

Construction began at the JWPP. The first open house was hosted virtually on September 8, 2021, and the local community was updated with information on construction activities, schedule and timelines. Due to the lack of interests from the community, a Community Liaison Committee (CLC) will not be established for the Jenner Projects. Updates on the projects will be provided to the public via the website, the newsletter, and future open houses.

A Letter of Enquiry (LOE) was sent to the AUC for the JWPP and updated applications for the JWPP2 and JWPP3 were submitted to the AUC. The JWPP, JWPP2 and JWPP3 are pending response from the AUC.

The LOE and updated applications will outline the proposed changes for the JWPP, JWPP2 and JWPP3, including the change in turbine manufacturer, turbine nameplate capacity, reduction in turbines, and several layout modifications that reduce the projects’ environmental impact.

A Letter of Enquiry (LOE) for the proposed minor changes to the approved JWPP, Halsbury substation, and 949L transmission line has been submitted to the AUC in July 2019. The LOE is registered under AUC proceeding 24718.

The existing 180.6 MW JWPPE AUC application will be taken out of abeyance and split into two applications; a 71.4 MW application for the JWPP2, and a 109.2 MW application for the JWPP3. We anticipate submitting the AUC applications for the JWPP2 and JWPP3 in Q3 2019.

A Letter of Enquiry (LOE) for the proposed changes to the already-approved JWPP is being submitted to the AUC in April 2019.

The JWPPE application will be removed from abeyance and amended to separate the project into two phases to accommodate the power purchase contract from the AESO for a portion of the JWPPE. Amendments are also required for the turbine technology, number and location of turbines and other small changes. We anticipate submitting the amendment in May 2019.

The Halsbury Substation and the transmission line will be shared by the JWPP and JWPPE projects. An LOE is being submitted for proposed changes to the already-approved Halsbury Substation. No changes to the approved transmission line (interconnection) are required.

Potentia Renewables Inc., through wholly owned subsidiaries, signed 20-year Renewable Energy Support Agreements with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) for the JWPP and a portion of the JWPPE (to be known as JWPP2) as part of the AESO?s Renewable Electricity Program 3 procurement.

Potentia Renewables Inc. received Alberta Utilities Commission Approvals on minor project amendments to the JWPP, Proceeding 23536.

Potentia Renewables Inc. received approval from Special Areas Board 2 on the development permit for the JWPP.

Potentia Renewables Inc. received all Alberta Utilities Commission Approvals for the JWPP, including Approvals for the preferred transmission line route. Potentia Renewables Inc. assigned the JWPP and JWPPE to a special purpose vehicle called the Jenner Wind Limited Partnership from Power Renewable Energy Corporation

Potentia Renewables Inc. filed an application with the Alberta Utilities Commission on March 3, 2016 (proceeding number 21394, application #21394-A001) requesting final Approvals of the 122.4 MW Jenner Wind Power Project.

Potentia Renewables Inc. filed applications with the Alberta Utilities Commission on May 13, 2016 and May 19, 2016 requesting Approvals to construct and operate the Halsbury 306S Substation (proceeding number 21394, application #21394-A002), the Transmission Line 949L (proceeding number 21394, application #21394-A004) and to connect the JWPP to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System.

Potentia Renewables Inc. filed an application with the Alberta Utilities Commission on March 3, 2016 (proceeding number 21394, application #21394-A001) requesting Approvals of a Phase I Buildable Area application for the 122.4 MW Jenner Wind Power Project.

Potentia Renewables Inc. acquired the Jenner Wind Power Projects from Joss Wind Power Inc. through a subsidiary called Power Renewable Energy Corporation.
